Example HSDPA Application > DUAL WAN Router Backup using HSDPA router

A break-down in internet access will critically affect the operation of any business. Fast primary 'land-lines' internet connection like ADSL, DSL, Fiber and Cable broad-band connections should to be backed-up with a cost effective and robust back-up connection. Together with a 'Dual WAN' office router, a fast HSDPA or HSUPA router can ensure operation continuity when its main connection is disrupted, e.g. faulty modem hardware, cabling or even service provider outages.

Example Solution

HSDPA router for WAN backup

In this example, an office's LAN is connected to the internet via an ADSL modem. To ensure business continuity in the event of the ADSL link failure, the DUAL WAN router will switchover it's WAN connection automatically to a 3.5G FATBOX HSDPA router, which is connected to its 2nd WAN port. When in stand-by (detected by non-activity of the DUAL WAN router's connected port), the FATBOX HSDPA will be disconnected from the HSDPA network and automatically connected upon detecting data activity from the DUAL WAN router. This lowers data usage cost and power consumed.

Some of the features of the FATBOX HSDPA router that facilitates succesful implementation of this solution includes,
  • "Sleep mode" and auto-disconnection of HSDPA connection when LAN port is inactive - saving data and power
  • Automatic reconnection if dropped data session (PPP) is detected by watch dog
  • Auto PING function tests connection to the application server, else reboot to establish a new session
  • Telnet console via TCP/IP over HSPDA for remote management of router
  • Wide power supply 5~30VDC ensure stability of operation
  • Industrial design and all metal construction for durability
